Midfielder 'eyed' for Nottingham Forest transfer after AC Milan decision

The summer transfer window has barely closed, but already rumours have surfaced about the business Nottingham Forest could do in January.

Last month, the Reds were linked with midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, with Premier League rivals Newcastle United and AC Monza also said to be keen. The Chelsea man is midway through a two-year loan at AC Milan but could soon be on the move again.

Fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned side Olympiacos are now eyeing up Bakayoko, according to Greek website SDNA. And they claim the 28-year-old could spend four months in Greece, before linking up with Forest in January.

The Greek transfer window is still open, with clubs having until September 15 to do business. Olympiacos boss Carlos Corberan is said to still be putting the final touches to his squad, having added winger Josh Bowler on loan from the City Ground following his deadline day switch from Blackpool.

Bakayoko joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in 2017 in a £40m deal, but has had a succession of loan spells since then. He headed to AC Milan last summer for a two-year stint.

However, the Italian side are reportedly keen to cut that in half. And with the Frenchman also seen as being surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, the two sides “have started negotiations again about the player’s future”.

The Reds are well stocked in the centre of the pitch, following a summer overhaul which saw 21 players added before last Thursday’s deadline. And there could yet be another addition to come, with free agent full-back Serge Aurier still expected to join up with Steve Cooper’s squad.
