Middleton seals United switch

Dundee United complete permanent deal for Rangers winger Glenn Middleton

JACK ROSS is confident he can get Glenn Middleton to perform to a high standard on a consistent basis after the winger agreed a three-year deal at Tannadice.

Dundee United have signed the 22-year-old from Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

Middleton spent four years at Ibrox after joining from Norwich City in 2018 and made 29 first-team appearances in total for the Govan outfit, scoring five times.

The Scotland Under-21 internationalist received game-time during loan spells at Hibernian, Bradford City and St Johnstone, and Ross is looking forward to working with the attacker and getting the best out of him.

"I’m really excited to have Glenn here," the United head coach told the club's website. "He will be a brilliant addition to our squad.

"The fans will see the quality he can provide on the pitch but it’s up to me to get that out of him on a consistent basis.

"I’ve spoken about Mathew Cudjoe’s impact and ability to eliminate players and produce something out of nothing and Glenn can do that too.

"Glenn brings an attacking intent to the group. He’s a player I’ve already worked with in the past [at Hibs] - albeit for a relatively short time.

"But I’ve always watched his career to see how he is progressing. He’s a really young man but he has a huge amount of potential and there’s still a lot he can achieve in his career.

"He spent four years at Rangers but I think he needed a fresh start and he’s admitted that himself. He’s played well against my teams as an opposition manager and also against Dundee United. It’s down to me to help him showcase his ability all the time.

"For a young man he has a lot of game time behind him at international level. To play 22 times for Scotland Under-21s is impressive but the next step for him is can he progress his international career further?

"He can only do that by being a successful player at Dundee United.

"I’m delighted we’ve been able to get him here on a permanent deal so in terms of what Tony Asghar and the owner Mark Ogren have done so far in the transfer window. It’s been terrific."
