A 51-year-old man died after falling ill at the wheel of his car during rush hour this morning.
Emergency services raced to the scene near the M74 at 7.50am and the driver was rushed to Hairmyres Hospital.
The drama unfolded on the A725 at Raith interchange, near Coatbridge and the southbound road and motorway slip were closed, the Daily Record reports.

Sadly Police Scotland confirmed the man died in hospital and his next of kin has been informed.
A spokesman said: "We were made aware of a crash involving a single vehicle after a driver apparently took unwell at the Raith Interchange around 7.50am on Wednesday, 7 December.
"The 51-year-old man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
"His next of kin has been made aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
