Mick McDermott outlines season objective after Manager of the Month success

Glentoran’s Mick McDermott has lifted the Manager of the Month award for August - but insists he aims to win something "better" by the end of the season.

The Glens have enjoyed an impressive start to 2022/23 and currently sit top of the Irish Premiership.

During August McDermott's men defeated Crusaders, Dungannon Swifts and Portadown after opening their campaign with a draw against Larne.

They remain unbeaten and one point clear at the Premiership summit, somewhere McDermott would like to be come the end of the season as Glentoran target a first title since 2009.

He said: “After a disappointing end to last season, we needed a good start to this season.

“Some people might say we haven’t played the top teams, because that’s people’s nature unfortunately, but I don’t look at it that way.

“Every team in the Premiership is capable of winning games. I’ve been very impressed by Newry City and Carrick Rangers have made a fantastic start to the season, so there’s no easy wins.

“You have to show up every week and play your best. If you don’t, you’ll lose. And that’s a great thing for the league.

“This is a great award to win and I’d like to thank the Football Writers for it, but I hope to win something better by the end of the season.”
