Sean Strickland is the new middleweight champion after pulling off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory against Israel Adesanya in Saturday’s UFC 293 headliner at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
Strickland (28-5 MMA, 15-5 UFC) stunned Adesanya (24-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) and viewers all around the world when he executed a near-perfect game plan to win a unanimous decision, beating one of the best to ever do it and put himself at the pinnacle of the sport.
Not many expected Strickland to wear gold, and now a fascinating reign could be on the horizon. UFC president Dana White wants to see an immediate rematch, but Strickland could have a number of potential alternatives in play.
