Jared Cannonier maintained his status as one of the top contenders in the middleweight division on Saturday when he defeated Sean Strickland in the UFC Fight Night 216 main event.
It came down to the wire, but Cannonier (16-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) was awarded the split decision over Strickland (25-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) in their headlining act at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, helping him rebound from a title-fight loss to then-champ Israel Adesanya in July.
Cannonier said post-fight that he thinks this win puts him back in the title picture and could perhaps even give him the next shot.
