Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy threw some pretty remarkable passes during the team’s 2023 championship season.
His teammate, linebacker Mike Barrett, spoke highly of McCarthy’s throwing abilities on Wednesday, but he chose to compliment him in a rather interesting way.
“He will throw a ball out of his butt,” Barrett said, via CHGO Sports’ Mark Carman.
That’s definitely a new one.
McCarthy finished his season with a 72.3% completion rate, which is by far the best in his career. This percentage gave Michigan the third-best completion percentage in college football last season, behind Oregon and Georgia.
The quarterback declared for the NFL draft after the Wolverines won the national title last month. Sports Illustrated’s post-Super Bowl NFL Mock Draft had McCarthy being selected by the Denver Broncos with the 12th pick.
He’s also been tied to potentially ending up with the Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, all NFL teams looking for new quarterback talent.
