Michigan State vs. Rutgers: Can Spartans pick up a second straight win on Saturday?

Michigan State picked up a massive road victory last week and now will look to build off that this week against Rutgers.

The Spartans upset Illinois last week to improve to 4-5 on the season and 2-4 in Big Ten play. Michigan State entered the game as a heavy underdogs but they put together a resilient effort to pick up the win.

Now the Spartans will turn their focus to Rutgers as the Scarlet Knights come to town. Rutgers is also 4-5 on the season and looking to pick up a must-needed win to keep their bowl hopes alive.

Can Michigan State build off last week’s momentum and get back to .500 on the year with a win on Saturday? Here are our score predictions for Michigan State-Rutgers and how we see this Big Ten battle playing out:

Cory Linsner

Prediction: MSU 28, Rutgers 16

Michigan State showed they still have gas in the tank, and fight left in the locker room. More importantly, Scottie Hazelton has key players back on defense, and dare i say, the unit actually looks decent. The offense will still need to pick up some slack for the Spartans to win , but i see them doing enough for MSU to pull one out.

Andrew Brewster

Prediction: MSU 35, Rutgers 21

I think the Spartans will come out of their big upset over Illinois with some new life and handle business against Rutgers at home. Payton Thorne has been throwing the ball better of late, Jalen Berger finally is starting to look like what we expected, and this defense actually looked like a defense last week. It will be a challenge to play a team that can actually throw the ball a little, but I expect MSU to handle Rutgers.

Robert Bondy

Prediction: MSU 24, Rutgers 14

Michigan State can’t afford to take anyone lightly but this does feel like a game they should win with relative ease. The Spartans finally are healthy and looking more and more like the team we expected them to be entering the year. I like their chances at picking up another win and getting one game closer to reaching bowl eligibility.
