Michigan State vs. Grand Valley State: Stream, broadcast info, three things to watch, prediction for Tuesday

Michigan State basketball will host Grand Valley State in an exhibition matchup on Tuesday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

Tuesday night’s exhibition matchup against the Lakers will be the Spartans first live action for fans to watch this year. Michigan State played a closed scrimmage against Tennessee on Oct. 23, with reports that the Spartans lost in a close game against the Volunteers.

Grand Valley State has already played two other exhibition matchups this year. The Lakers fell at Oakland University, 92-76, on Oct. 20 and at Eastern Michigan, 85-69, on Oct. 27.

Three Things to Watch

Here are three things to watch out for in this matchup between Michigan State and Grand Valley State:

Starters and bench rotation: With the losses of Gabe Brown, Max Christie and Julius Marble from last year’s squad, there will be some shakeup to the starting lineup this year. So this exhibition opener should give us an indication of who (at least for now) is considered the starting five and who is coming off the bench first in a reserve role. We can’t read a ton into the true rotation in an exhibition game of this nature, but it’s still something to keep monitor on Tuesday.

If Jaden Akins is available: Akins needed surgery in September to repair a stress fracture in his left foot but was expected back by the season-opener. This isn’t technically the season-opener so we will see if Akins plays against the Lakers and if he does, how he looks coming off that injury as he works back into playing shape.

How do freshmen look in opener: Michigan State have three freshmen in forward Jaxon Kohler, center Carson Cooper and guard Tre Holloman who will be making their Spartans debut on Tuesday. All three could be relied on to have big roles this year so this will be our first look at each and how they fit into the rotation early in the season.

Game Prediction

Prediction: MSU – 87, Grand Valley State – 61

It’s hard to predict a score in a season-opening exhibition of this nature, but I anticipate the Spartans winning this game with ease. The final score may not reflect the actual outcome of the game as I anticipate Michigan State getting their bench plenty of minutes and gaining experience for some of the younger guys.
