Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller and volleyball head coach Leah Johnson made the decision to part ways earlier this month. After a national search, Haller now has the program’s new head coach, bringing back a former player to take over.
Kristen Kelsay will now be leading the Spartans program, a program she spent 2009-2013 as a player. She spent three years as a team captain at MSU.
Kelsay will be coming over to MSU after spending the last two seasons as the associate head coach at Minnesota. Prior to Minnesota, she spent three years with Northwestern in an assistant role, and also spent four seasons as an assistant at Michigan State.
Kelsay will look to bring Michigan State back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017, when she was an assistant at MSU.
