Michigan State’s men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo has coached his son Steven for the last four years, but the father-son duo experienced a uniquely emotional moment Wednesday night during an exhibition game.
The young Izzo hasn’t seen much playing time across his college basketball career, but on Wednesday, the graduate student officially scored his first points as a Spartan. And, he did so in front of a home crowd and his father.
While Steven made two free throws, the crowd at the Breslin Center went absolutely wild. Though the regular season hasn’t even began, the arena sounded like it could be in the middle of March Madness given how loud the audience got.
This moment brought the longtime Spartans coach to tears while he sat on the bench watching his son make his first baskets.
