On Thursday, Michigan State football lost a beloved member of the 2014 Rose Bowl game victory over Stanford when rapper Rich Homie Quan passed away tragically at the age of 34.
I have seen a number of Spartans who were at the school back in 2013-14 take to social media to share their memories about that season, Rich Homie Quan, and the importance of his song ‘Type of Way’ for that season.
In my opinion, Michigan State should bring back ‘Type of Way’ as a permanent fixture in Spartan Stadium for football games moving forward to remember the life of Rich Homie Quan, and celebrate the best team of the Mark Dantonio era.
We have already seen MSU bring back ‘Thunderstruck’ for their entrance song, I think it would be great to find a time to play ‘Type of Way’ during games, or after victories, to remember arguably the best season of the modern MSU football team.
We saw the last regime under Mel Tucker try to install ‘Swag Surfing’ as the new song for the football team, but I think Type of Way has so much earned mythology in the MSU community, it just makes sense to use it, and with the passing of Rich Homie Quan, it would be fantastic way to pay tribute to a man who embraced Michigan State.
Michigan State should honestly start using Type of Way during home games to honor Rich Homie Quan and that season. No clue why that didn’t become a staple in the first place
