It wasn’t without some anxious moments, but Michigan State basketball was able to close out their regular season on Sunday with a 77-67 win over Maryland on senior night. The Spartans finish their season with a 20-11 record and a 10-9 record in the Big Ten.
The Spartans came out of the gate hot in this one, entering halftime with a 46-26 lead. Marcus Bingham, in particular, was dominant in the first half and finished the game with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals and a block, and hit 3-of-4 from three.
To Maryland’s credit, they made a strong push in the second half behind some great play from Fats Russell and Eric Ayala. However, the Spartans hung in there and responded despite slipping back into some of their worst habits (aka turnovers). Malik Hall had a great second half and finished with 17 points. Tyson Walker did a great job steering the ship as well at point guard, keep MSU’s offense going when Maryland made some runs.
This win will put MSU at the No. 7 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and a rematch with Maryland on Wednesday at 6:30pm ET.
