Gold buttons ran down the front of the dress, and Obama completed the look with gold jewelry, a stacked ear of rings and studs, and a baby-blue manicure. Her highlighted braids were gathered into a low bun, keeping the styling polished without competing with the graphic print.
The dress marked a departure from typical tennis-spectator dressing. While much of the US Open crowd leans into tennis whites, Ralph Lauren staples and country-club-inspired pieces, Obama chose color and print over anything resembling sportswear, a decision that made the Chanel piece instantly identifiable from a distance inside the stadium. The former first lady attended as a spectator for the night session, which featured the fourth-seeded Gauff facing second-seeded Rybakina, with Rybakina advancing in three sets to reach the final against Aryna Sabalenka.
