Pundit Peter Grant has told Michael Beale he broke an “unwritten rule” of management when he attended Rangers clash with Aberdeen.
And the Celtic hero claimed that Beale wouldn't have a Scottish Premiership winners medal if fans were allowed in stadiums back during the 2020/21 camaign. Steven Gerrard and assistant Beale masterminded a convincing title victory over Neil Lennon's Hoops back behind closed doors due to Covid rules, and the QPR boss is to have opportunity to land more success at Ibrox following the sacking of Gio van Bronckhorst.
Beale is the frontrunner to step into the Rangers hot seat but Grant was unhappy at his appearance in the stands against Aberdeen while Van Bronckhorst was under pressure - and offered a theory over why Beale lifted the title. When asked on The Go Radio Football Show about the potential appointment Grant responded: "I’m slightly surprised. These guys all work their ticket to get back down south.
"He has got the opportunity to get back down south. He has been back up here, as we know, to watch the Aberdeen game.
"I thought that was the wrong time to be perfectly honest, especially with Gio under a little bit of pressure. That was disappointing, because it’s an unwritten law.
"You can go to the game, but I don’t think mingling with supporters is the right thing to do. We all like going to the games, but you sit with your hat on and try and make yourself unseen.
"I thought some of the comments he made at the time were really strange, about Steven Gerrard. That they would have won the league if they were still there.
"They have to remember that they only won the league because there was no supporters. It’s easier to play without any fans."
