Michail Antonio makes vow about West Ham Premier League goal record

Michail Antonio is keen to put as much daylight as possible between him and any West Ham player who could threaten his Premier League goal record.

The 32-year-old overtook Paolo Di Canio as the club’s record goalscorer in Premier League competition in August and has since taken that tally up to 54.

While the Jamaican international’s form has tailed off since, Antonio remains a hugely important figure in David Moyes’ first-team, starting 28 of the club’s 30 Premier League games thus far.

In a Europa League context, the striker has scored once on the club’s journey to the quarter-final stage to take his tally up to 10 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

From the current squad, only Manuel Lanzini features in the club’s list of top 10 goalscorers with 25, meaning it’s hard to see anybody matching Antonio without transfer intervention.

In a video posted on the club’s official website of Antonio talking about his backstory, he said: “When I started playing here, I didn’t even know what the record was.

“I didn’t even think about it, it was just about me playing games, trying to get games.

“Now I’ve achieved this, I’m going to keep scoring goals and make that distance as far as I can, so it’ll be a very long time before anyone can catch me.”
