Yesterday, we also revealed the BBC will air an explosive three-part documentary about the case next month called Murder In Paradise.
On January 10, 2011, Michaela and her husband John had lunch at their hotel. After they had their meal, she went to her room at the Legends Hotel.
Newlywed Michaela, from Ballygawley, Co Tyrone, was then strangled in her hotel room while holidaying on the Indian Ocean island.
The 27-year-old daughter of former Tyrone football star Mickey Harte was attacked after she returned to the couple’s room alone and disturbed a burglary.
Cops investigating the horror murder believe Michaela was wrestled to the ground on entering her room and strangled.
She was then put into the bath and the water was turned on.
Her husband John found Michaela’s body in the bath.
To date, nobody has been convicted of her murder and in August 2020, the Central Criminal Investigation Department in Mauritius reopened the investigation.
Her funeral took place in St Malachy's chapel, outside Ballygawley in Co Tyrone on January 17, 2011, 19 days after she was married there.
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed the meeting took place.
They said: "There continues to be engagement by the Government with the authorities in Mauritius on the death of Michaela McAreavey in 2011.
"The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin, TD, recently met with family members.
"As with all consular cases, it would not be appropriate to discuss the specific details of the case."
