Micheal Skubala will be checking on the fitness of several key men as eyes turn to Sunday’s return fixture against Manchester United. The Leeds United co-caretaker manager helped oversee the Whites’ 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Wednesday night following the dismissal of Jesse Marsch on Monday afternoon.
However, the point came at a cost with both Pascal Struijk and Luis Sinisterra leaving the field in the first half with injuries. Sinisterra, who only returned from his last injury in January, left the field just eight minutes into the game after picking up what looked to be a hamstring issue.
The Colombian was followed down the tunnel about 20 minutes later by Struijk, who picked up a head injury in the game. The defender took a hefty blow to the face as he took the brunt of a Marcus Rashford shot and that brought an end to his evening in Greater Manchester.
Struijk will be tested today, before a decision is made on whether he can play against Erik ten Hag’s side at Elland Road this weekend, while Sinisterra will be assessed, too.
“Yeah, we took a few early knocks early on with a few injuries,” Skubala said in his post-match press conference. “That made it difficult for the second half with the amount of stoppages we can have but we need to go back and assess and see how everybody is.
“It's a shame to lose some good players but we'll have to dig deeper and be together.”
On Struijk specifically, he added: “We have to go assess with the medical team and see how is. I think he's taken a big blow, he's okay at the minute, he is a little bit dizzy but again, at the moment I just need to go and speak to the medical team and see them tomorrow and see how he is.”
Skubala made two changes to the Whites’ starting line-up on Wednesday night, with Liam Cooper and Marc Roca dropping out of the XI through minor issues. The interim coach couldn’t confirm whether they would be fit to be involved this weekend, though, insisting a call would be made later in the week.
“So both of them we just thought it was a bit too early for them for this game,” he added. “So again, we need to assess for them and see how they'll be if they're ready for Sunday.”
