Michael Schumacher health update as ex-Ferrari boss says family are "living differently"

An update on Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has been given by ex-Ferrari boss Jean Todt. Schumacher suffered a horrific head injury when enjoying a skiing holiday in the French Alps in December 2013 with his family.

Whilst out on The Alps, the seven-time world champion fell and hit his head while on an off-piste area and was then air-lifted to hospital. Schumacher then underwent two operations, before being placed in an induced coma.

Since the horrifying incident nearly nine years ago, the German has lived an extremely private life - with updates on his health few and far between.

The latest though has been provided by Todt, who has revealed Schumacher and his family are 'living differently' in the aftermath of the injury.

He told gazzetta.it : "For me, it is a privilege to be close, in the family with Michael, with Corinna, with Mick and Gina. Their life changed on December 29, 2013. They have to live everything differently. The important thing is that there is the closeness of friends. And Keep Fighting, their foundation."

The former Ferrari boss went on: "They are things that are part of life, is that they are more important than results and our beloved races. Life, for everyone, is not just racing."

After announcing himself as one of the sport's greatest driver's during his career, Michael's son Mick is now representing the Schumacher name in Formula 1, currently driving for Haas.

The youngster has had a breakthrough year behind the wheel, picking up his first F1 points at the recent British Grand Prix. Following his maiden points scoring, Schumacher Jr addressed what it was like to compete under such a famous name following the success of his dad.

He said: "“I love racing, I love ultimately also winning. For me there was never a doubt that I wanted to race in Formula 1, no matter who my dad was, but he’s so much more to me as well. He’s my dad and I’ve had a great upbringing and I’m able to evaluate where I need to put pressure on myself and where not.

“And I think that’s one of the things where I don’t need to put pressure on myself and that has been quite clear from day one that if I don’t want to do this I don’t have to – and I still want to do it and still want to make a name for myself as well and race well in Formula 1.”
