Michael Schumacher's wife Corinna says she misses him every day as she gives rare update

The wife of seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has said she misses him every day as she gave a rare update on his life since a serious accident while skiing in 2013. Corrina Schumacher said "he's different now" as she fought back tears while speaking about his condition.

Information around Michael's condition has been a closely-guarded secret since he was left injured following the accident. However, speaking as her husband was awarded the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia, Corrina opened up about life for the family.

As reported by BirminghamLive, she said: "I miss Michael every day. But it's not just me who misses him. It's the children, the family, his father, everyone around him. I mean, everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here. Different, but he's here and that gives us strength, I find."

She went on: "We try to carry on a family as Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives. 'Private is private', as he always said. It is very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael."

Schumacher retired in 2012, but just a year later he was involved in a life-changing skiing accident while on the slopes with his son Mick — who is now an F1 driver himself racing for Haas. He suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him in a medically induced coma. The 91-time Grand Prix winner has not been seen or heard from public since.

Schumacher won two Formula 1 championships for Benneton in 1994 and 1995 and then five consecutively for Ferrari, between 2000 and 2004. He retired in 2006 but returned for a stint with Mercedes from 2010 to 2012.
