Michael Owen's wife and other three kids as he gives verdict on Gemma's Love Island stint

Michael Owen is used to being at the centre of attention for his skills on the football pitch, but his daughter Gemma has stolen the show amid her appearance in the Love Island villa.

The 19-year-old dressage rider made her entrance on the ITV2 dating series at the beginning of June, before going on to couple up with Liam Llewellyn before being stolen by Davide Sanclimenti.

However, her romance with the hunky Italian wasn't meant to be and she soon found herself hitting it off with Luca Bish, with the pair's romance going from strength to strength since.

Despite giving Gemma his full support, Michael didn't appear too pleased ahead of his daughter's villa stint at first.

Speaking to ITV News before the show started, the 42-year-old said: "I have no doubts that she will make us all proud. It’s probably a father’s worst nightmare, but whatever she wants to do. You’ve got to be supportive.

"It’s been different without her in the house. I’ve got other kids and my wife, and it’s been quite tough because she’s had to switch her phone off and we’ve had no contact for a couple of weeks so that’s been the hard bit."

However, it appears Michael may have had a change of heart as he has sent his daughter a message in the villa, which fans will see on Sunday's episode.

Gemma's mum Louise tells her of Michael: "Honestly, he is really proud of you, really proud."

There is one final vote for Gemma and Luca to go through before they make it to the finale and are in with a real chance with bagging the £50k cash prize.

Alongside Gemma's footballer dad, who else is supporting Gemma back in Michael's Chester mansion?

Here, we take a look at the entire Owen clan.

Who is Michael Owen's wife Louise Bonsall?

Michael has been happily married to wife Louise Bounsall since 2005.

The pair first met in 1984 and quickly became childhood sweethearts whilst attending Hawarden High School in Wales.

Michael popped the question to Louise on Valentine's Day – which is also her birthday – in 2004.

Their wedding venue was believed to be Carden Park Hotel in Chester, with the ceremony taking place on June 24, 2005.

Just like her daughter Gemma, Louise has a passion for horses and started riding at the age of seven.

However, she was involved in a horror horse riding accident in January 2004.

The WAG suffered multiple injuries after being thrown off her horse, Isobelle, who landed on top of her during the accident.

Louise broke her back in two places and her hip and pelvis in five places, resulting in a three-week stay in the Countess of Chester Hospital.

She was 23 at the time, while Gemma was only eight-months-old.

Following the accident, Louise began focusing on rehabilitating horses and became a patron of the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre.

Who are Michael Owen's other children?

Michael and Louise have welcomed four children over the course of their relationship.

As well as Gemma Rose, the pair also share James Michael, Emily May and Jessica.

The Love Island contestant is the eldest of the four Owen kids, born on May 1, 2003.

Son James followed in February 2006, while second daughter Emily May was born in October 2007.

The family went on to welcome their fourth child, Jessica, in February 2010.

Despite his successful career in football, Michael admitted he's keen for his children to earn their own money.

Speaking on the Walk The Dog podcast regarding all four of his kids, the former footballer said: "It's really difficult from a parent's point of view. You want to give your children the best start and the best chance.

"But you're always wrestling with the fact that if I just make it so easy, and I can do this and do that, is she going to learn from any mistakes?"

He added: "You want money that much – there's a pub down the road, go and work behind the bar or something. That's my view."

While Gemma decided to follow in her mother's footsteps with horses, Michael's other children are just as sporty.

14-year-old Emily, who is still currently in school, has a number of accolades within athletics.

Last year, Michael shared his pride over Emily, saying: "Emily, today competes in the last 16 of The England Schools Athletics Championships over 100m despite being a year younger than the other competitors."

Rare eye condition

Meanwhile, 16-year-old James shares a passion for football – just like his famous dad!

Sadly, James' hopes of becoming a professional footballer were dashed after he was diagnosed with a rare eye condition.

"He will never be a footballer. My son’s got an eye condition," Michael told The Times in 2019. "I've never said this. I don't want a big headline.

"Clinically, he’s blind. He’s got Stargardt disease, a degeneration of his retina. I used to go and watch him and b*****k him about his positioning.

"He can’t see the ball until it’s five yards away. As much as every father wants their son to play, it is almost a relief to me."

Michael's youngest daughter Jessica is 12-years-old.
