Michael Owen's response to daughter Gemma's sexy dance on Love Island

In last night's Love island, Gemma Owen attempted to set the boys' heart rates racing - as her dad Michael Owen watched from home. The former Newcastle United and England footballer has previously said he was wary about his daughter signing up to show.

Tuesday night's episode of the ITV2 show was perhaps one for him to have missed as the Islanders were tasked with doing sexy dance routines for their partners, reports the Mirror. One of the first girls up was Gemma, who danced for all the boys, focusing mostly on Luca Bish - who she is coupled up with in the villa.

Back home, Michael watched on TV and took to Twitter to comment. He posted a single emoji on the social media platform, which had a person hiding their face.

The tweet got thousands of responses, as fans joked about how it was a bad time to watch the show. "Wrong night to tune in #loveisland," one wrote, as another added: "Loooooooooooooooooooool deep breaths my guy."

A third shared: "Watching your daughter strip on prime time tv for a fisherman would have made my heart explode." A fourth person penned: "Man's walking up to the villa to drag Gemma out like this #LoveIsland."

Michael - who also played for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Stoke City during his career - has talked of how he doesn't like to see his daughter swear so much on the show.

He explained: "One thing I wasn’t happy about, watching the show, was the amount of swearing - and from Gemma too. She said the s*** word (he spells it out), and I was shouting at the screen there. I don’t allow swearing at home."

Michael also insisted how, despite her young age, he trusted his daughter to make "sensible decisions". "She’s a mature 19," he said.

"She’s a bit like me in that regard. I was playing for Liverpool when I was 17, and having to make friends with 23, 24, 25-year-olds. The bottom line is, she’s an adult and I have to trust her to make sensible decisions.

"Gemma only turned 19 in May. Much of the social media obsession about her has focused on her youth. She has had two years more than I had to get ready for life in the public eye."
