Michael Owen hits back at vile tweets about Love Island's Gemma

Michael Owen has been disgusted by comments made about his daughter.

The former Liverpool FC star admitted he is having to go through what no father wants - and that is to watch your 19-year-old daughter on Love Island. It has been almost a week since Gemma Owen entered the villa and so far she has coupled up with Liam Llewellyn, Davide Sanclimenti and Luca Bish.

Now her ex-boyfriend, Jacques O'Neill is set to enter the villa tonight. In the episode, we will see Gemma admit she still fancies her former beau.

But while Gemma is currently living in social media silence, her dad is having to endure endless comments about her stint on the ITV2 dating show. Proud dad Michael, 42, has been answering questions about his "baby" and admitted he didn't want to see his Gemma kissing on the show.

However, this prompted many crude responses. One was from football coach Paul Proud's Twitter account. The former Glasgow City FC employee posted: "Can't wait to see her getting smashed" followed by a number of laughing emojis.

Michael was quick to call the Twitter user out. He re-shared the Tweet as he added: "What a fine example to set from a man in your responsible position.”

Michael has previously spoken out about how he felt about Gemma entering the villa. Speaking to the Mail Online about the show, Owen said: "It's not something any father wants to watch, is it? I said to [my wife] Louise, 'do they really have to sleep together, like in the same bed?' She said 'yes'. I said 'I did not bank on this'."

He carried on watching though, and added: "Luckily for me, there was no physical contact. Gemma had her back to the guy. There was space between them. I thought, 'Good girl'. No father wants to see physical contact, do they? I certainly don’t.

"If there is physical contact I think I’ll be throwing something at the screen. I don’t want to see kissing. Do not make me see kissing."

Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub
