Michael Owen believes Newcastle will make it nine games unbeaten in the Premier League against Southampton tonight.
Only Liverpool are in better form than the Magpies right now, with Eddie Howe’s men winning five of their last six fixtures. Newcastle have not tasted defeat in the league since the 4-0 hiding suffered against Man City in December - an astonishing feat considering where the club was at the turn of the year.
However, they face a stern test at St Mary’s as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, too, boast an impressive unbeaten record of their own. The Saints have not lost at home since September 26, as the Magpies look to end a 12-game run that has formed the backbone of a solid top-flight campaign.

Former Toon striker Owen predicts a score draw on the south coast between two of the Premier league’s in-form sides.
“This should be good, both sides have been in great form over the last couple of months,” he wrote in his BetVictor column.
“Southampton’s 4-0 defeat to Villa was a real shock to the system, but they’ve been brilliant at home this season. Newcastle are unbeaten in the league in 2022, and I can’t see them losing here.
“These two drew at St James’ earlier this season and I’m going for a 1-1 draw here.”
