With summer here, lots of people are looking to shed a few pounds before they head on holiday.
And in order to help people slim down a little, diet guru Dr Michael Mosley has shared three foods that should be 'avoided' or 'minimised' by those looking to lose some weight.
The nutritionist, who created the 5:2 and Fast 800 eating plans, spoke about some of his diet hacks during his new BBC Sounds podcast. The expert explained that swapping out some snacks can help curb cravings - such as opting for nuts and choosing certain fruits to help soothe a sweet tooth.
The diet doc, who also posts regular blogs, has also listed three food groups slimmer should avoid if they want to drop pounds quickly, reports the Bristol Post.
Sugar
The first food group to cut down on is sugar, including pastries, ice creams and other desserts.
Dr Mosley said: "Cut right down on sugar, sugary treats, drinks and desserts.
"That includes most breakfast cereals, which are usually full of sugar, as well as most commercial smoothies."
Starchy carbs
The nutrition expert also explained that slimmers should try to minimise their "starchy carb" intake.
"Minimise or avoid starchy carbs – meaning the white stuff: bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice", he said.
He recommended making the switches "to whole grains including bulgur (cracked wheat), whole rye, wholegrain barley, wild rice and buckwheat - brown rice is OK".
"Legumes such as lentils, kidney beans and chickpeas are healthy and filling, too", he added.
Ultra-processed foods
The third food group to cut out is ultra-processed foods, with those looking to shed pounds advised to ditch them.
Dr Mosley said: "Ultra-processed foods include chicken nuggets, burgers, chips, pizzas, hotdogs, pre-packaged meals, mass-produced ice cream, sweets, crisps, energy bars, bakery goods, biscuits, margarine and pretty well anything that says 'instant'.
"Processed foods and takeaways could be to blame for the UK's obesity epidemic," he claimed.
