Michael Flatley has shared online that he has undergone surgery for an aggressive form of cancer.
The 64-year-old's team took to Instagram to provide a statement about his health. Michael's supporters were reassured that he was receiving excellent medical care and were asked to send prayers and well wishes.
Michael's staff wrote: "Dear fans, we have something personal to share. Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer."
They continued: "He has undergone surgery and is in the care of an excellent team of doctors. We ask only for your prayers and well wishes."
The Irish-American dancer had appeared on the Late Late Show as recently as September to promote his new film 'Blackbird.' Michael's social media team confirmed on the Instagram post that no further comments about his health status would be made at this time.
People took to the comments section to share their sympathies with Michael and wish him a speedy recovery, including famous faces such as Keith Duffy and Keith Barry. Fine Gael TD Josepha Madigan also penned a touching message to the star.
The Minister of State for Special Education wrote: "I will never forget Michael's incredible kindness to my late sister Edwina when she had cancer. He was exceptional to her. Michael deserves all our love, support and prayers."
The Riverdance icon was previously diagnosed with a malignant melanoma in 2003 but was successfully treated for the condition. Michael learned that he had skin cancer after an eagled eyed fan noticed an unusual mark on his face during an interview on MTV, who flagged it with his personal assistant.
