Bruno Fernandes boost as Michael Carrick confirms Manchester United team news before Nottingham Forest clash

Michael Carrick has confirmed Casemiro is available for selection against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The Brazilian missed last week’s goalless draw away at Sunderland with a minor issue, but was spotted in training earlier in the week to raise prospects of an Old Trafford farewell.

It has now been confirmed that Casemiro will be fit to make his final appearance at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ on Sunday afternoon, with Carrick heaping praise on the midfielder.

“Case’s available. I can speak since I’ve been here and met him and worked with him, he's been fantastic for us, for me personally, for us as a group what he’s given us,” the Man Utd boss said in the pre-match press conference.

“That certainty helps, knowing the situation, for him and for us, for him to get in a place where he can give absolutely everything know it’s going to come to an end.

“Credit to him for the way he’s gone about that. It is easy to go the other way.

“He’s fully invested, fully supported by us as a staff in the performances he’s given. He’s had some ups and downs over the year, to finish so strongly and see that connection with the supporters is really good to see.”

Casemiro’s return could also be fantastic news for Bruno Fernandes as he seeks to make Premier League history.

The Man United captain is currently on 19 Premier League assists, meaning he needs one to equal the record which is held jointly by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

After drawing a blank against Liverpool and Sunderland, Fernandes now has 180 minutes of Premier League football to either equal or set a new assists record.

Of the 19 assists, six have been for Casemiro - including home games in 2026 against Fulham, Aston Villa and Leeds.

Elsewhere, Manuel Ugarte could be back in the matchday squad after missing out against Sunderland, but Benjamin Sesko looks set to remain sidelined with a shin issue.

"Ben's not as straightforward as Case," Carrick added. "He's still not 100 per cent. Apart from that, we're alright."
