Michael Beale reacts to Rangers VAR call after Don Robertson foul verdict

Rangers manager Michael Beale felt his team had a goal wrongly disallowed as they were defeated by Celtic at Ibrox.

The Govan outfit had a goal chalked off after Cyriel Dessers challenged Gustaf Lagerbielke and set up Kemar Roofe to net just before the half-hour mark.

The goal was given by referee Don Robertson before the whistler was then ordered to take a second look on his VAR monitor.

Beale was left frustrated by the decision, but he feels his team still had sufficient time to make their mark on the game.

Beale told Sky Sports: “I think it’s a harsh decision. On saying that there is a lot of football to played.

“When I watched it back, he boy pulls his leg back and he’s a lucky boy because Cyriel put his foot on the floor and the boy kicks the back of him.”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers also reacted to the decision.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "Firstly, I thought Gus was slow on it and we needed to make a better angle for him and that's why he probably stayed on it a little bit longer.

"But when you see it back he's clipped him and obviously we get the moment go our way.

"Up until that point we were in control so I would have been really disappointed if we conceded at that moment.

"He will learn from that as a really young player, that you can't dwell on it, you have got to see the pass and be clean and get it away."

On BBC Scotland, he added: "Gustaf has got to look to get his passes away quicker however in saying that he looks like he was nicked from behind.

"Rangers will probably say it was never a foul but the referees, there were enough officials looking at it and they deemed it to be that."
