Michael Beale gets brutal Rangers nickname as he's warned gallus predictions are verging on delusional – Hotline

Michael Beale's ambition to have Rangers competing with the best in Europe provoked a predictable response on the Hotline, while Graeme Shinnie’s four-game ban row continued to rumble on.

Jim McClean, Rothesay, emailed: “Can I please have some of what Mick Beale is on, saying he wants to challenge Europe’s elite next year? Where is the money coming from and who the hell is going to come to Scottish football, and especially to skint Rangers? He talks some nonsense to brainwash the supporters.”

Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “I nearly choked on my Rice Krispies on hearing Beale is building a team to play in Europe. He wants to try to build a team to stop Celtic first as the next game he could be sacked if he doesn’t beat the champions.” Eddie Easson, Ballingry, Fife emailed: “Beale the Spiel is at it again. There is no end to the man’s gallusness. Going to to compete with elite in Europe he says. His team can’t compete with the elite in Scotland let alone Europe. His first two major signings Cantwell and Raskin are hardly Real or Man City class. If they were they wouldn’t be at Ibrox, fact. He’s not even had a year as a manager yet. “

Paddy Gowans, emailed: “Beale is on about building a team for a challenge in Europe. Our teams are no hopers in Europe. We are in a poor league and everyone in Europe wants to be drawn against a Scottish club.”

Henry Moffat, Stirling, added: “Who is Micheal Beale trying to kid that buying a few players with the buttons he will have will be enough to bridge the gap with Celtic? His only two good players are Kent and Tillman and he will need to spend £5m to stand still with one while the other leaves for nothing. Celtic on the other hand are loaded and have been recruiting some big players in the transfer world with the obvious intention of making some big moves this summer. This guy is delusional.”

William Masson, Aberdeenshire said: “Whenever I take off my red tinted spectacles I can see why VAR asked the referee to review the Shinnie incident. Win the ball or not the follow through doesn’t look great. However, why does the player get an extra game ban for an appeal sanctioned by the club? Surely if the appeal is deemed frivolous the club should be fined rather than the player serve an extended ban.”

On the same subject, John Caw said: “Some of the so-called football know-alls say it is the right decision about Shinnie’s tackle. The one who could have caused damage to Baldwin was himself as he tried to pull back and the people who know best tell you it’s folly to try to stop as you do yourself more damage.”

Tom Moultrie, Exmouth, Devon, said: “So Shinnie gets a four match ban for winning the ball? If it happened to the Old Firm the ban would be overturned, guaranteed.”

John Scott Grassmoor. said: “John Hughes says Hibs were disrespectful as they didn’t reply to his football director enquiry. Is this the same John Hughes who basically told the Yorkshire media that Falkirk, Hibs and Livingston was his apprenticeship for the step up to the might of EL1 Hartlepool United FC? Bit of karma then Yogi.”

Andrew Adams. Kirkcaldy, said: “Why would Ryan Kent sign for Burnley? To play one season in the Premier League? Yes he would probably be on bigger wages but he will be in a relegation fight that they might not win, it’s his choice, but its a big decision, is Burnley as good as he’ll get? Probably, it’s all about the money, not ambition, ask Joe Aribo, it’s turned out well for him....not!!”

Finally, Joe Graham emailed from The Dark Ages to say: “The Champions League game of Manchester City v Bayern Munich was a real man’s game. 100 per cent will to win , man’s game. A delight to watch. I followed up watching a recording of the women’s game Glasgow City v Rangers - a top of the table women’s game. They have a long way to go, which I don’t see them ever reaching anything near the men’s game.”
