Michael Beale explains Rangers relationship with 'loveable rogue' Morelos and his false perception

Alfredo Morelos is not the player people perhaps think he is at Rangers according to former assistant manager Michael Beale.

The current QPR boss has revisited his time at Ibrox and reflected on the highs and lows of his Glasgow stint which started in 2018 and ended in November last year. Morelos was the club talisman throughout that entire period but has netted just three times this campaign, with his contract set to expire at the end of this season.

Despite accusations of laziness and attitude problems, Beale insists that the Colombian was one of the best Rangers trainers during his time at the Light Blues and that he has developed greatly after arriving from HJK in 2017. He told Currie Club: "I didn't manage him, the gaffer (Steven Gerrard) did! The boy you see behind the scenes wasn't the one the media were portraying. He's a laugher and a joker.

"He trains everyday when other players wouldn't. There were some other things around it but he was a young boy. When you realise where he's come form and the journey to get to Scotland, the way the media was with him in the first period, I thought a lot of it was to protect himself.

"I think he's matured a lot and there were a lot of people around Europe who would constantly ask us about him so he's a player who intrigued people.

"His Spanish and my broken Portuguese was an interesting way to communicate! He's a loveable rogue. His teammates love him one day and the next day they don't.

"But in terms of when we were there, his training and performance, he scored a number of goals that were invaluable."
