The underdog Los Angeles Lakers had a big win during their first playoff game against the Grizzlies, and Austin Reaves played a massive role.
Reaves, who grew up not far from Memphis and said he knew “over a hundred” people at the game, finished the victory with 23 points. He also added 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.
Although this incredible behind-the-back pass from Reaves to his red-hot teammate Rui Hachimura was one of the highlights of the performance, the most memorable moment came during one of his celebrations.
A mic’d up video caught exactly what Reaves said after a jumper:

We have seen several players (like Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) yell “I’M HIM!” as their preferred celebration during crucial moments on the court, but we usually just get a lip reading.
This was heard loud and clear, spoken in Reaves’ accent and all.

Reaves was asked about the reaction:
“It’s a lot of emotions … You dream about being on a stage like this, the best basketball players in the world. It’s the playoffs. I got hot late and had fun.”
This was an outstanding moment for the former undrafted free agent.
Reaves already surpassed even the boldest expectations for what he would be able to contribute to a playoff roster that also includes LeBron James as well as Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell.
How much more can the 24-year-old wing continue to ascend? It feels like we potentially haven’t even scratched the surface!
