Mic’d-up Mike McDaniel tried to jokingly befriend a referee before Dolphins – Bills in a delightful exchange

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has become one of the most fascinating personalities in the NFL, and his pregame exchange with a referee underscores why that’s the case.

Ahead of the Dolphins’ away game against the Buffalo Bills, McDaniel chatted with one of the referees and had about as friendly a conversation as we’re guessing an official and a coach can have.

McDaniel joked that he was “looking for friendship” when talking to the ref before extolling the difficulty of working as an NFL official and offering a lot of respect for the job they do on the field.

The referee seemed to greatly appreciate McDaniel’s candor, which was probably as strategic as it was wholesome. Hey, you can get on an official’s good side while also just being a decent human being and funny, and McDaniel seemed to have that down pat on Sunday.

We’re big McDaniel fans, and we love seeing him be himself in Miami with a very good Dolphins team.
