Cooper Kupp isn’t going to play in the preseason but that doesn’t mean he won’t still be helping the Rams win. While on the sideline, Kupp watches the game closely and even analyzes the all-22 images on the Surface tablets so that he can help his teammates understand coverages and route-running better.
That’s exactly what he did during Sunday’s win over the Cowboys, working closely with rookie receiver Jordan Whittington. The Rams had Whittington mic’d up for this game and Kupp was seen helping Whittington several times.
“Good, strong catch here,” Kupp told Whittington. “I’m thinking, if I was getting this look, I’m thinking, OK, I’m running slant off one, two, three, right? You go one, two, three and that foot’s in the ground, right now, I bet if you ran a slant, you catch this right here, you’d run through a tackle and it’s a first down.”
Whittington took the coaching well, pointing out what he could’ve done better.
“I was shuffling in while he was coming down. I’ve got to go get him,” Whittington said.
“Honestly, that’s pretty good considering how much time you get there, that was pretty good,” Kupp added.

Whittington truly appreciated the coaching from his veteran teammate, telling a teammate that he’s never been in a receiver room like the Rams’.
“I ain’t never been in no receiver room like this. Everybody’s close, everybody truly cares.”
When Kupp was sidelined for the first four games of the 2023 season, the Rams’ receivers asked if Kupp could still travel to away games so that he could help them on the sidelines. That’s how highly regarded Kupp is in the locker room, serving as an extra coach on the field and the sidelines each week.
Like Puka Nacua last year, Whittington is in great hands with Kupp coaching him up.
You can watch the full mic’d-up video with Whittington below, and in it, he made sure to tell everyone his score prediction of 13-12, Rams.
