Kai Trump, the 19-year-old granddaughter of US President Donald J. Trump, has opened up about the emotional challenges of leaving home and adjusting to college life as she begins her freshman year with the University of Miami women's golf team.

Trump documented her transition in a video posted to her YouTube channel, sharing her experience of moving from living with her mother to settling into an apartment as a university student. Her first week on campus was also complicated by illness after she developed strep throat.
The teenager said leaving behind her family and friends had been more difficult than she anticipated, describing an emotional farewell before beginning her new chapter at university.
“I’ve been, like, literally sobbing,” Trump said.
She said saying goodbye to everyone had been particularly difficult, especially because she does not typically see herself as an emotional person.
“It’s just, like, really sad that I have to say goodbye to, like, everyone today. I’m not, like, a very emotional person at all, so this is, like, really weird for me to cry,” she said.
Trump also acknowledged that she was struggling with the transition despite being excited about starting college.
“I’m just struggling right now, just, like, thinking about it, but, like, I’m excited,” Kai Trump said as she opened up about adjusting to college life.
Her friend Emma also helped her settle into her new apartment. According to Trump, Emma picked up frozen food for her after she revealed that she had barely eaten for several days.
“Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven’t eaten in like three days,” Kai said in the video.
