MI vs RR on Sunday is 1000th IPL game, BCCI plans small celebration

MUMBAI: The BCCI has planned a small celebration to mark the historic 1000th IPL game, between the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night.

Conceptualised by Lalit Modi, the cash-rich T20 league, which has changed the face of the sport and perhaps all sports in India, started 15 years back in 2008.

"The BCCI will hold a small celebration to mark the occasion. The volunteers will be holding the 1000th IPL match flag, ‘thank you’ flag and the Indian flag. The whole ceremony will last for just 10-15 minutes. It will kick off with (former India coach-turned commentator) Ravi Shastri addressing the crowd. Then, a video will be played out in which a few players will talk about the IPL. Then, the BCCI office-bearers will hand over a memento to both the captains (Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson), which will be followed by the national anthem. A dry run will be held on the eve of the match," a reliable source in the BCCI told TOI on Friday.

An event management company has been contracted by the IPL for conducting the small function.
