The Briefing

  • On February 22, 2026, Mexican Special Forces critically wounded CJNG kingpin Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes during a raid on his hideout at a mountain resort in Tapalpa, Jalisco; he died during helicopter transport — not at the scene — marking the most decisive blow to organized crime in modern Mexican history.
  • Mexico's sweeping intelligence law, enacted in July 2025, created the Plataforma Central de Inteligencia: a real-time digital hub merging military, naval, financial and civilian data, managed by the National Intelligence Center (CNI) and powered by AI-driven analytics.
  • Between October 2024 and February 2026, coordinated federal forces recorded more than 46,400 arrests for high-impact crimes; the new system has since enabled simultaneous takedowns across multiple states on the same day — a structural first for Mexico.
