A busy bus route between Newcastle city centre and Metrocentre is set to be reinstated almost a year after it was suspended.
The number 100 shuttle bus operated by Stagecoach was suspended in summer 2021 due to staffing and operational issues related to Covid-19. The busy route had previously operated a service every 10-15 minutes between Newcastle's Blackett Street and Gateshead's Metrocentre shopping centre.
During the suspension passengers were able to use Stagecoach tickets on Go North East services between Newcastle and Metrocentre. But now Stagecoach have announced that the number 100 will be reinstated from Sunday, March 27.
Buses will run up to every 12 minutes during the daytime, every 20 minutes during evenings, and half hourly during later evenings. A full timetable can be found here.
Ticket acceptance arrangements, which allowed Stagecoach adult Newcastle and Tyne and Wear Dayrider, Megarider and North East U19 tickets to be used on Go North East services, will end after March 26.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach said: "On Sunday 27 March 2022, Service 100 between Newcastle and Metrocentre will be reinstated. These express buses will run up to every 12 minutes during the daytime, every 20 minutes during evenings, and half hourly during later evenings.
"As a result of the 100's return, the ticket acceptance arrangements on Go North East between Newcastle and Metrocentre will end after operations on 26 March. Customers are thanked for their patience whilst we reinstated Service 100, which had been suspended since summer 2021."
