Metro Wholesale to set up shop in smaller cities

Wholesale business giant Metro Wholesale is looking to enter smaller cities in the State with smaller stores and is looking for partners for the purpose, Managing Director and CEO of Metro Cash & Carry India Arvind Mediratta has said.

Speaking to presspersons after the launch of the eighth Metro Store, the 31st in the country, he said that while the Hubballi store is a bigger one spread over 34,000 sq ft, the company is looking to set up smaller stores of 20,000 sq ft, just like it has done in Tumakuru.

Mr. Mediratta said that each one of the Metro stores will generate direct and indirect employment for 500 people. And, 99% of the products that Metro sells are Made In India.

He said that stores in Belagavi and Mangaluru are in the pipeline and more stores, along with logistic support, are being planned across the State. Metro has eight stores in Bengaluru. He said that with the help of Metro e-commerce App, traders and grocery merchants will have a better shopping experience.

Business value

Inaugurating the Metro store, Member of Legislative Assembly Arvind Bellad said that for the developing twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad, Metro will be a good gift. He said that the multi-national company has blended well with the Indian ethos and the entry of Metro will add value to the business of the local traders.

Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil said that Hubballi-Dharwad has all the potential to develop as the next business centre after Bengaluru and now, air connectivity and infrastructure have further given a boost to its development story. He hoped that the company will work with the local traders and help them to grow their business.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gopalkrishna B. hoped that a win-win situation will be created for all with the entry of Metro in Hubballi. Store Manager Anil Pujar briefed about the German company’s 18-year journey in India.
