TV favourite Steph McGovern was in for a surprise during her live lunch-time show on Wednesday, which happened to be the North East presenter's 41st birthday.
The host was interrupted mid-show by chef and show regular John Waite with some birthday surprises which included a video screening from South Gosforth Metro station where a Tannoy announcement was heard sending her special wishes. First Steph had been stopped in her tracks by a band playing happy birthday and then came on-screen footage showing the likes of a mural at Leeds Dock - painted in her honour - which features her name.
Then John remarked about Steph being a Metro user when back in her home region before saying that Metro had just made a very important announcement to all its passengers. There followed a clip showing the Metro station and a train as the Tannoy announcement was heard in the background.

The message referring to her special day started with the words "your attention please". The announcement then added: "A very happy birthday to Channel 4's Steph McGovern from everyone at the Tyne and Wear Metro. Have a fantastic day".
The presenter was visibly moved by her birthday surprises, which also included guests in the studio showing off individual 'Steph tattoos'. And after watching her Tannoy announcement she responded: "I love that! I get on the Metro all the time."
