The Irish Data Protection Commission has fined Meta €1.2 billion over data breaches.
The Irish watchdog issued the fine in relation to a breach of EU data regulations. The commission found that data transfers from Meta between the EU and the US violated GDPR regulations.
The decision relates to Facebook, one of Meta's most popular platforms. The data concerns do not affect other platforms such as Instagram or WhatsApp. The inquiry was initially launched in 2020 and a draft decision was penned in 2022 after the investigation had concluded.
