If you're hoping to get your hands on the newly announced Meta Quest 3 headset, here are our predictions for when pre-orders for the device will start.
Just prior to the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, Meta confirmed in a blog post that its newest Meta Quest 3 headset will be coming this fall alongside a confirmation of the price of the device as well as loose specifications. It also stated that the current Meta Quest 2 will see a price reduction, which is now live, to make VR more accessible.
The latest headset will feature a brand-new chip making it faster than its predecessor, as well as new and improved features to increase comfort levels and overall performance. Meta confirmed that the Meta Quest 3 release date will land around Fall 2023, which lines up with the release of previous headsets including the Meta Quest Pro and the Meta Quest 2.
It was confirmed that the 128GB model will be retailing for $499.99 which translates to roughly £399.24 in Sterling while in Australia it’s AU$763.69, though it's rare that regional prices are a straight conversation. Despite being quite a price jump from the previous Meta Quest 2, this is still cheaper than the PSVR 2 headset which was released by Sony earlier this year and requires a tethered connection to a PS5 in order to play.
Meta Quest 3 pre-order predictions
Given that we know this headset will be coming in Fall 2023, it's likely that an official announcement which contains information regarding pre-orders and the release date for the headset will be coming at the annual Meta Connect event. This event is expected to be held in either September or October, was when we saw both the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro announced in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
Both of these headsets were available to pre-order directly after the event and then released just a week later, so it's likely the same will be the case for the Meta Quest 3. However, one thing that sets the newest addition to the line apart is the fact that the Meta Quest 3 has been announced well in advance, which didn't occur with either the Meta Quest 3 or Pro meaning Meta may have an alternate plan up its sleeve.
Meta Quest 3 where to buy predictions
The current line-up of Meta Quest headsets has been available at a wide range of retailers including directly from Meta themselves, so we can assume the same will be the case for the Meta Quest 3. Retailers in the UK have included Currys, Argos and Very amongst many others.
