Meta launching camera-free smartglasses to shake ‘pervert’ notoriety

• Meta reportedly plans to release camera-free smart glasses after widespread backlash over privacy intrusions and non-consensual filming.
• Critics have nicknamed the current camera-equipped models "pervert glasses," and several UK pubs, schools, theaters, and courtrooms have banned them.
• The new audio -focused glasses, internally known as Luna, will feature six built-in microphones to interact with Meta's Muse AI agent while providing a slimmer profile and longer battery life.
• Meta is expected to officially unveil the Luna glasses, updated camera models, and new augmented reality goggles at its Meta Connect event on September 23-24.
• To combat misuse on camera-equipped models, Meta is rolling out updates that disable the camera if the LED recording light is covered or tampered with.
