Met Police say 'no investigation' into BBC scandal after meeting with broadcaster

The Metropolitan Police has issued a statement regarding the ongoing BBC presenter scandal following a virtual meeting with the broadcaster.

On Monday morning, detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command met with representatives from the BBC virtually.

Although the Metropolitan Police confirmed that no investigation is underway, they stated that further enquires would be taking place.

They will now assess the information that was discussed during the meeting with the representatives with further enquires set to take place to establish the evidence of a criminal offence being committed.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said in the statement: “Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command met with representatives from the BBC on the morning of Monday, 10 July. The meeting took place virtually.

“They are assessing the information discussed at the meeting and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed. There is no investigation at this time.”

During the weekend it was claimed that a top BBC presenter was taken off the air after it was reported he paid a teenager £35,000 (€40,900) for explicit pictures.

The claim was made in an article run by The Sun, in which the mother of the alleged victim has claimed the money paid to their child was used to fund a drug addiction.

The mum of the recipient told The Sun: "I was shocked to see a picture of him sitting on a sofa in his house in his underwear.

"I immediately recognised him, he was leaning forward getting ready for my child to perform for him. My child told me, 'I have shown things' and this was a picture from some kind of video call."
