Met Office weather: Bristol to bask in sunshine as temperatures reach 22C

Bristol is set to bask in sunshine once again today (Sunday, May 21). The Met Office is predicting temperatures of more than 20C later this afternoon.

The outlook shows temperatures of around 18C at midday before increasing gradually throughout the day. It will be warmest between 3pm and 6pm, with the mercury set to hit 21C.

Looking ahead to this week, the forecaster expects periods of sunshine and clear skies. It expects temperatures to reach 22C on Monday (May 22), adding that it will 'feel warm in the sunshine' on Tuesday (May 23).

It comes following reports that the UK will experience a 'mini-heatwave' between now and the end of the month. The Met Office predicts a high-pressure ridge to bring warm weather and sunshine for a prolonged period.

A Met Office spokesperson told The Mirror: "A high-pressure ridge is most likely to extend across the UK, resulting in a good amount of fine and dry weather for most. Temperatures most likely above average overall, although most likely closer to average in the southeast.

“Into June, high pressure is predicted to remain dominant, especially for northern areas, with cloud, rain and showers more likely to the south, although there is a level of uncertainty associated with this. An increased likelihood of above average temperatures for many."

Met Office five-day forecast for the South West

Today: A fine and settled day with lengthy sunny spells. Some fair weather cloud building during the afternoon, mainly towards the east, with more prolonged sunshine further west. Feeling pleasantly warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight: Remaining dry with sunny spells into the evening. Turning chilly overnight with clearer skies developing, allowing for some early mist patches. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Monday: Another fine day with plenty of sunny spells. Feeling warm inland, especially in the east. Slightly cooler along the north coast with a strengthening breeze. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Plenty of settled weather with variable cloud and sunny spells. Feeling warm in the sunshine, though temperatures returning to average for the time of year. Winds generally light throughout.
