Met Office warns of 'injuries' as new yellow weather warning announced for Nottinghamshire

The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for tomorrow (Saturday, March 11), stating that ice patches are likely to cause "injuries." After a week which has seen heavy snowfall lead to major disruptions throughout the East Midlands, the region has now been alerted to the dangers posed in areas where snow has fallen.

The last couple of days (Thursday, March 9 and Friday) has seen bus and tram services across Nottinghamshire affected by the snow, with some bus services being partially cancelled. On two occasions East Midlands Airport has had to put a temporary runway closure in place as a result of the weather.

Schools up and down the county have also been forced to close today due to the conditions. Now, the Met Office has put another yellow weather warning in place, writing that: "Ice is likely to be a hazard where snow has fallen overnight."

Some injuries from slips and falls and icy patches on untreated roads are to be expected. The forecast for Saturday predicts patches of freezing fog, rain and possibly sleet. The warning is in place until 10am on Saturday, March 11.

Temperatures could reach as low as -3C. The Met Office forecast reads: "Very cold initially, then staying dry while high cloud arrives and any patchy freezing fog clears. Rain moving through overnight, possibly preceded by sleet or hill snow this evening.

"Maximum temperature 6 °C."
