Met Office's Bristol weekend forecast after Storm Eunice leaves trail of destruction

Storm Eunice has torn a path of destruction through the Bristol region, leaving a trail of uprooted trees and damaged buildings.

There was a narrow brush with disaster in Fishponds after a three-story tower of scaffolding collapsed at a car dealership, and elsewhere in the UK the fierce winds tragically resulted in the death of at least three people.

The Met Office's rare red warning for wind expired at midday today but strong gusts of up to 90mph continued for hours, until the storm moved further into the Midlands and beyond.

This weekend the weather should be less dramatic but heavy rain and wind gusts of more than 50mph are still forecast for Bristol. Tomorrow (Saturday, February 19) a yellow weather warning for wind is in force.

It is in place from 6am until 6pm and advises: "Further strong winds are expected in some southern areas of the UK, which could hamper recovery efforts from storm Eunice.

"There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close. There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected. Infrastructure recovery works resulting from storm Eunice could also be hampered, i.e. power cuts may be prolonged."

Hour-by-hour forecast

According to the Met Office forecast at the time of writing, light rain is expected to begin in Bristol tomorrow at 9am, progressing to heavy rain at 10am.

Downpours will persist until 1pm when they will ease off into light showers until 5pm, forecasters predict - a solid eight hours of rainfall if this turns out to be accurate. There should be sunny spells in the afternoon until clouds move in for an overcast evening.

Temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 5C and 10C during the daytime, but could feel colder due to wind speeds of up to 44mph, which are expected to peak at about 11am.

On Sunday there are no weather warnings in place for Bristol, but the outlook is not much better for anyone planning a leisurely walk or trip to the shops.

Heavy rain is forecast to fall from midday all the way until 9pm, with light rain in the morning starting at 9am - 12 hours of rain in total.

Wind speeds could build to 51mph by mid afternoon, but the temperature will be a couple of degrees warmer compared to Saturday, with highs of 12C by 3pm.
