A jet stream of very cold air could be coming towards Britain in days from a freezing America.
The Met Office has shared video footage of the jet stream carrying cold air across the Atlantic. The Met Office has predicted the cold air could affect weather conditions over New Year, the Mirror reports.
In a tweet, the forecaster said: "The UK is set for an unsettled period leading to New Year's."

"This is partly related to the cold air that has been spreading across North America, helping to strengthen the jet stream and push low-pressure systems across the Atlantic."
At least 34 people have been killed in the US by a deadly storm that has brought incredibly low temperatures. At least 57 people have reported being trapped in their cars in the US, particularly in New York state.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has said: "This is a war with mother nature, and she has been hitting us with everything she has. It is like going to a war zone, and the vehicles along the sides of the roads are shocking.”
A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of the UK by the Met Office, as rain and snow is expected to arrive over the course of a day. Surfaces may fall below freezing, meaning ice will develop.
Leeds is set for heavy rain on Wednesday, but is currently set to avoid most of the snow warnings.
Wednesday will see rain arriving in South East England and Wales that moves northeastwards with very heavy downpours. The rain will be particularly heavy on high ground in Dartmoor and south Wales.
Some places could get 40 to 60 millimetres in nine to 12 hours. It is set to clear up in the afternoon.
