A weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued across Nottinghamshire, with residents told to expect potential flooding, public transport cancellations and road closures. The Met Office has issued a warning for heavy showers and thunderstorms in the area, with the alert in place from 9am until 11.59pm on Saturday, July 8.
The weather forecast provider said that some people could be affected by the heavy rain and storms, with the potential for power cuts, as well as flash flooding and difficulty driving. The Met Office said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over parts of the UK on Saturday."
Outlining what those in Nottinghamshire can expect, it added:
- Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
- Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Some communities might become cut off if roads flood
- Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
This comes after the UK recorded its driest June on record.
