A YELLOW weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for large parts of central Scotland.
The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for heavy showers and flooding that will come into force at 2pm on Tuesday and will last until 9pm.
Parts of Argyll and Bute, West Dumbartonshire, Glasgow, Stirlingshire, Clackmannanshire, Perthshire, Edinburgh and Fife are all covered under the alert.
The Met Office has warned of potential flooding and disruption to bus and train services due to slow-moving heavy showers.
The forecaster added that thunder could be expected in parts with the heaviest showers, with the heavy rain expected to dissipate throughout the evening.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Following rain overnight and this morning, which could be heavy at times, showers are expected to break out this afternoon which are likely to be slow-moving.
“A few places could see 20mm in an hour, and there is a chance that the odd location could see 30-40mm in 2-3 hours. This may lead to some localised flooding and travel disruption across parts of central Scotland.”

It comes after thunderstorms struck all across Scotland on Friday, with some Scots describing it as the strongest they have “ever seen”.
Viral videos showed forks of lightning across Edinburgh Castle, and eyewitnesses said the volume of the thunder claps was “unreal”.
On social media, one user shared a video of lightning crashes above Edinburgh, writing: “Have never experienced a storm like this before in Edinburgh that was a supercharged storm.”
Another, in Fife, also shared a clip of the lightning, writing: “A spectacular storm, and a stark reminder how minuscule we humans are.”
In East Lothian, another said: “Woke at 3.00am with thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Street lights went out several times and shop alarms on main street were going off.
“This is like weather in the US not East Lothian!”
