Met Office issues 39 hour snow warning for Greater Manchester - borough by borough weather forecast

The Met Office has issued a heavy snow weather warning for Greater Manchester and other parks of the UK this week.

As temperatures begin to plummet across the region, many parts of Northern England will begin to see more freezing conditions which may bring wintry showers with it. The yellow warning states their could be 'heavy snow' across Greater Manchester from Thursday onwards.

In an update, meteorologists warned: "Heavy snow has the potential to cause significant disruption on Thursday and Friday.

"There is a small chance that long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur. There is a slight chance that roads may become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers

"There is a small chance that communities could be cut off for several days. There is a small chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services, such as gas, water, telephone and mobile phone coverage, may occur."

The weather warning is in place from 3am on Thursday to 6pm on Friday. Here's a breakdown of when it will snow in each borough of Greater Manchester, according to early predictions from the Met Office.

Bolton

On Thursday, Bolton will start the morning off with cloudy skies and freezing temperatures of 0C. As the morning progresses, things will remain relatively cold at around 1C before light snow begins to fall at 9am with a 60 per cent chance of precipitation.

Bury

Thursday morning in Bury will see sleet at 9am accompanied by extremely cold temperatures of 1C. By lunchtime, light snow will begin to fall as temperatures increase slightly to 2C.

Manchester

Manchester central will have a slightly warmer start to the day compared to other boroughs. Overcast skies will dominate most of the morning before snow begins to fall at 12pm, accompanied by cold temperatures of 3C.

Oldham

Oldham will see colder temperatures than many other boroughs with temperatures reaching -1C in the early morning. By 9am, light snow will fall across the region accompanied by freezing temperatures of 0C.

Overcast skies will dominate the rest of the day before light snow falls again for most of the evening, starting at 6pm and remaining well into the early hours of Friday.

Rochdale

Much of the snow in Rochdale on Thursday will be accompanied by wet conditions, resulting in sleet. Light snow will fall at 9am before making at come back at 6pm with slightly warmer temperatures of 3C.

By 9pm, sleet will fall over the region and will persist well into the early hours of Friday morning.

Salford

Early forecasts show much of the snow covering Greater Manchester will miss Salford on Thursday and Friday, with warmer temperatures reaching up to 4C and overcast skies dominating the whole day.

Stockport

While covered by the yellow warning for snow, early forecasts do not predict any snowfall in Stockport this week.

Tameside

Tameside will see snowfall a bit later than other regions with sleet predicted at 9pm and carrying on until 12am on Friday.

Trafford

Early predictions don't show any snow for Trafford on Thursday, but this could change as we get closer to the date. Temperatures will be warmer than other regions, peaking at 4C

Wigan

Early predictions don't show any snow for Wigan on Thursday, but this could change as we get closer to the date. Temperatures will be warmer than other regions, peaking at 4C
